Overview

The Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) is a health services specialist who assists pupils in attaining and /or maintaining optimum health and promotes good health habits and attitudes.

 

Beach Cities Learning, a Learn It Family of Companies division, is a certified K -12 Private Day School approved by the California Department of Education to provide Special Education Services for the following disability categories:  Autism (A), Emotional Disability and Emotional Disability-Private (ED) (ED-P), Developmental Delay (DD), Mild Intellectual Disability (MIID), Moderate Intellectual Disability (MOID),Orthopedic Impairment (OI), Other Health Impaired (OHI), Specific Learning Disability (SLD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI),Visually Impaired (VI), and Speech-Language Impairment (SLI).

Responsibilities

  • Review immunization records for school age children
  • Maintain student health records
  • Administer medication and/or treatment when necessary for pupils to attend school
  • Provide first aid and emergency care to all school age children
  • Provide the following services as promulgated by individual State Law/Regulation:
    • Assist with Medical/Dental Screenings
    • Prepare and file state reports as required by law
    • Conduct audiometric screenings
    • Conduct scoliosis screenings
    • Conduct vision screenings
    • Conduct Height and Weight Screenings
    • Provide other optional screenings as needed, ex. Blood Pressure, Lice
  • Notify parent/guardian if a screening defect is found upon screening and recommend appropriate follow-up 
  • Observe and recommend to principal, exclusion of students who show evidence of communicable diseases and/or whose immunization records are not received from parent/guardian after numerous attempts
  • Submit monthly report of health services and screenings performed to management
  • Under the general supervision of a certificated supervisor, Site Administrator and company Registered Nurse our candidate would assist with providing specialized physical health care services to pupils with exceptional needs
  • Job duties include administering medication, COVID testing, temperature checks, contacting parents in regard to any medically related concerns, toileting, first aid, seizure response, AED training & support. Overall scope is to perform related duties as required in effort to provide direct medical assistance to students with exceptional needs

Qualifications

  • Must be able to provide proof of CNA certification
  • Specialized Skills: ability to interact and communicate both verbally and in writing with adolescents, educational staff, families, and the public
  • Knowledge of school-based/community resources, especially related to the mental health, social services, and education fields preferred
  • Spanish speaking skills a plus
  • Ability to work with people of diverse populations and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise a high degree of independence, initiative, tact and good judgment
  • Ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information
  • TB Test
  • Computer literacy
  • Organized and detailed oriented
  • Professional appearance and attitude at all times
  • Must be able to adhere to a consistent schedule
  • Effective communication in both oral and written
  • Must be able to work independently and effectively engage a diverse group of clients, community partners, and co-workers; must be dependable and trustworthy
  • Must have excellent time-management skills and ability to juggle multiple projects at once and must maintain filing system as required by the company, and meet all company deadlines
  • Excellent time managed and initiative
  • Maintain a professional and clinical perspective at all times, able to not internalize or personalize (e.g. emotionally) in regards certain student behaviors or mannerisms that occur
  • Must be able to lift 35 pounds
  • Work location is in a school building where employee may need to be able to go up and down stairs
  • Frequent standing
  • Must have the strength and dexterity to safely and effectively use Crisis Management Interventions of all involved (e.g. self, student, other employees)

Compensation Range

$24 - $28 / hour
