Overview

Learn Academy Learning is looking for a full-time Lead Special Education Teacher for our location in Fresno, CA for 23/24 school year.

 

Learn Academy/Beach Cities Learning (http://www.beachcitieslc.com), a Learn It Family of Companies division (http://www.learnitsystems.com), is a certified K -12 Private Day School approved by the California Department of Education to provide Special Education Services for the following disability categories: Autism (A), Emotional Disability (ED), Mild Intellectual Disability (MIID), Moderate Intellectual Disability (MOID), Other Health Impaired (OHI), Specific Learning Disability (SLD), and Speech-Language Impairment (SLI).

 

Learn Academy/Beach Cities Learning utilizes a highly-structured, school-wide Positive Behavioral Supports program that teaches students Academic, Social/Emotional Problem-Solving and Strategies. All DCS teachers and support staff are trained in a unique methodology that assists students with maintaining Positive Choice-Making. Responsibilities

The Lead Education Specialist is responsible for providing guidance and oversight to all on-site employees. Works closely with the Site Administrator and Lead Behavior Interventionist to provide management in regards to professional growth planning, mentoring, developing and maintaining key reports, providing hiring and training of new employees, conducting meetings and professional development, as well as being the initial point of contact for staff in regards to academics. In addition to responsibilities listed here, Lead Education Specialists are also responsible for regular special education teaching duties.

 

Starting salary $60-$75k, based on experience and credentials.  We offer tuition reimbursement, relocation assistance and other benefits.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and professional development of all on-site teachers including monthly reviews  and trainings with staff 
  • Mentor new teachers on policies and procedures of Beach Cities Learning/Learn Academy (BCL/LA) Program.
  • Review and provide feedback of all documents and reports for meetings
    • IEP, Parent, Quarterly reports
  • Attend IEP meetings and help teachers schedule them if necessary.
  • Ensure proper coverage of anything before or afterschool as needed
  • Help Coordinate proper coverage of staff
  • When necessary coordinate with management and local police only emergency situations
  • Conduct meeting with BCL/LA Admin weekly
  • Conduct teacher team meetings once per week and classroom team meetings on a daily basis
  • Help schedule enrollment and reintegration meetings in a timely manner
  • Provide professional development to staff as well as attend professional development as outlined by organization
  • Help maintain all campus contacts which may include but is not limited to: site and district administrator, staff, and parent contacts
  • Keep track of related service providers attention on sign in sheet
  • Assist in interviewing of potential candidates
  • Provide regular teaching duties as outlined in Special Education Teacher job description
  • Works with Compliance Specialist in keeping all school Compliance and Certifications documentations up to date (To include WASC, CDE site Visits)

  • Ability to provide a high level of customer service to principals, classroom teachers, and parents
  • Must be able to teach all basic skills and interact with students, parents and administrators
  • Strong administrative and computer skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities
  • Organized and detailed oriented
  • Professional appearance and attitude at all times
  • Must be able to adhere to a consistent schedule
  • Effective communication in both oral and written
  • Collaborate and able to receive to feedback, mentoring and direction from peers and supervisors
  • Maintain a professional perspective at all times

Work Conditions

  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds
  • Work location is in a school building where employee will need to be able to go up and down stairs
  • Frequent standing
  • Hand dexterity for typing and entering data into a computer
  • Must have the strength and dexterity to safely and effectively use Crisis Management Interventions (including the use of therapeutic holds) of all involved (e.g. self, student, other employees)

Qualifications

  • Valid California Special Education Credential( Mild to Moderate)
  • Active and valid Education Specialist California Teaching Credential teaching certificate issued by  the appropriate California State Department of Education
  • At least 3 years teaching experience with elementary, middle, and/or high school students
  • Experience working with emotional and/or behaviorally challenged students
  • Spanish speaking a plus.  Not required.

Compensation Range
